Applications are currently being accepted for Central European University Scholarships for the year 2024 in Hungary. These scholarships are open to all international students, regardless of their nationality, who wish to pursue a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree at one of Hungary’s top universities. Central European University offers more than 50 degree programs across 17 departments, all of which are taught in English.

These Central European University Scholarships are partially funded. Students can apply without needing an IELTS/TOEFL test score, as long as they provide their English Proficiency Certificate. This presents an excellent opportunity for talented students to study in Hungary without the need for an IELTS test score.


Established in 1991, Central European University (CEU) is a private research institution that has earned a strong reputation. Partial Tuition Award

A small number of Partial Tuition Awards is available for outstanding applicants to the BA/BSc in Data Science and SocietyBA in Culture, Politics and Society and BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics programs. 



This is a merit-based award, which may fund up to 50% of the tuition fee (up to €3,500 per academic year).


Applicants who want to be considered for this award must apply by February 1, 2024.

To be considered, indicate your interest in this award in the CEU Application Form (‘Funding’ section).

Presidential Scholar Award

Two outstanding candidates will receive a Presidential Scholar Award with a total value of €5,000 each. The Presidential Scholars Fund was established by CEU President and Rector Michael Ignatieff and his wife Zsuzsanna Zsohar to support students who demonstrate exceptional academic credentials and leadership promise.



The Award covers part of the tuition fee throughout the four years of BA studies as follows:

  • Year 1: €500
  • Year 2: €1,000
  • Year 3: €1,500
  • Year 4: €2,000


All applications submitted by February 1, 2024 will be automatically considered for this award. There is no need to submit a separate application or indicate your interest in this award in the CEU Application Form (‘Funding’ section).

Eligible Nationalities:

This Central European University Scholarships is open to domestic and international students of all nationalities.

Eligibility Criteria:

To qualify for scholarships at Central European University in Hungary, candidates must adhere to the following requirements:


  1. Eligibility extends to international applicants of any nationality.
  2. For admission to a Bachelor’s degree program, candidates must possess a high school certificate.
  3. To enroll in a Master’s degree program, applicants must hold an Undergraduate Degree Certificate and Transcript.
  4. For admission to a Doctoral Degree program, candidates must have completed a Master’s degree.
  5. Proficiency in the English language is a prerequisite.
  6. The application deadline is: 1st February, 2024.

When applying for Central European University Scholarships, you must provide the following documents as part of your admission application:

Application Deadlines 2024/25 for Graduate Programs

NOTE: Fee payments to CEU are processed by Flywire, and for us to receive your (first) application, Flywire must verify the receipt of your application fee. With bank card payments, this usually happens instantly. Therefore, card payment is strongly encouraged. If, however, you are paying the application fee by another method such as bank transfer, verifying your payment may take several days. In that case, we recommend that you submit your application with your fee payment one week before the deadline to avoid any issues.

PhD programs:

February 1, 2024 (23:59, Central European Time)* 

Application deadline for doctoral programs for applicants from all countries. 

All applications must be complete with any applicable standard test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.). 


Master’s programs: 

October 18, 2023 (23:59, Central European Time)* 

Application deadline for applicants to master’s programs** from visa-sensitive countries (i.e. countries where it may take 9 to 12 months to obtain a study residence permit and visa).  

Early application deadline for applicants to master’s programs** seeking an early decision because they either need no CEU financial aid or wish to apply for external funding.  

All applications must be complete with any applicable standard test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.). 

*Applicants will receive a response in December 2023.

All applications must be complete with any applicable standard test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.). 

March 15, 2024 (23:59, Central European Time)* 

Application deadline for self-financing applicants for master’s programs who are citizens of countries outside the EU/EEA area and require a  study visa (except applicants from visa-sensitive countries). All applications must be complete with any applicable standard test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.).  



August 15, 2024 (23:59, Central European Time) 


Application deadline for self-financing applicants for master’s programs with citizenship or permanent residency in an EU/EEA country. All applications must be complete with the applicable standard test scores (TOEFL, IELTS, GRE, etc.). Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis (subject to spaces available).
